Alewijnse has fulfilled its scope of work as main electrical contractor on the OceanXplorer project. OceanXplorer will continue the work of OceanX\u2019s first research vessel, Alucia, broadening understanding of Earth\u2019s oceans. Alewijnse\u2019s work on the project has involved the complete electrical refit \u2013 including installation of around 210km of cables.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

Breed en divers toepassingsgebied

Alewijnse heeft aan het project een breed en divers werkterrein gehad. Zo installeerde het bedrijf een veelzijdiger om een duidelijke detectie onder het wateroppervlak mogelijk te maken. Aangezien OceanXplorer in de poolgebieden zal opereren, omvat dit ook belangrijke mogelijkheden voor ijsbergdetectie. Het bedrijf heeft ook onderwaterverlichting en een onderwatertelefoonsysteem ge\u00efnstalleerd, waardoor de communicatie van het schip naar de onderwatermotoren mogelijk wordt.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

Alewijnse heeft twee afzonderlijke verlichtingssystemen ge\u00efnstalleerd \u2013 \u00e9\u00e9n voor het schakelen en dimmen van normale verlichtingsarmaturen en \u00e9\u00e9n voor het regelen van de lichttemperatuur. Dit vergemakkelijkt onder andere het filmen; een belangrijk onderdeel van OceanXplorer\u2019s missie om de wereld te voorzien van meer informatie over onze zee\u00ebn en oceanen.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

Het bedrijf heeft het ECDIS-systeem voor de brug van het schip ge\u00fcpgraded \u2013 inclusief de installatie van een 55-inch Touchscreen-monitor \u2013 en het DP2-systeem geoptimaliseerd met de toepassing van de nieuwste besturingselementen en software. Alewijnse heeft ook het alarm- en monitoringsysteem van het schip ge\u00fcpgraded.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

Complex, specialistisch project

Tjarco Ekkelkamp, projectdirecteur van het project OceanXplorer bij Damen Shiprepair Rotterdam, lichtte Damen\u2019s contractering van Alewijnse\u00a0voor de elektrische scope toe met de woorden: \u201cDit is een complex, specialistisch project. De OceanXplorer heeft de kenmerken van een offshore schip, een wetenschappelijk onderzoeksschip en een luxe eco-toeristische lijnboot. De vele projecten waar Damen in de loop der jaren met Alewijnse aan heeft gewerkt, omvatten alle drie deze scheepstypen. We hadden er dan ook alle vertrouwen in dat ze de uitdagingen van de OceanXplorer refit aankunnen \u2013 en dit oordeel is zeker juist gebleken.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

Working safely<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n\n

A further challenge during the project execution has been presented by the outbreak of the Covid-19 virus. Peter van Campen, Alewijnse project manager explained: \u201cThe wellbeing of all people working on the vessel has naturally been our primary concern at all times. Ensuring this has naturally involved placing strict limitations on the number of people on board the vessel at any one time. However, we enjoy an excellent collaboration with the yard and our co-workers. This carefully coordinated cooperation has ensured our ability to continue working safely during this time.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

OceanX<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n\n

OceanX was founded in 2018 with a mission is to explore the ocean and share its discoveries with the world. OceanX combines next generation technology, science and storytelling to educate, inspire and connect the world with the ocean and convenes leading scientists, media entities, global leaders and philanthropy partners to drive towards greater understanding and protection of our oceans. OceanX\u2019s milestones to date including capturing the first ever footage of the Giant Squid in its natural habitat and the first 1,000 metre deep sea submersible dives to the Antarctic seafloor.  

As OceanX believes the ocean to be our most important and least explored natural resource, their team has sought to create a state-of-the-art science and media vessel, converting a former oil-survey ship into a one-of-a-kind platform for exploration, science and storytelling \u2013 OceanXplorer.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n
